Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What happens if there is an emergency?

All our guides are well-experienced and are aware of the possible physical problems and crises that may arise during the trek. They are well-trained with first aid and are already prepared for any sort of emergencies.

For any minor cases, there are health posts organized by local and foreign doctors.

In case of an emergency, the guides are qualified to deliver the First-Aid and will transfer you to the nearest hospitals possible or alert for immediate Air-Evacuation to Kathmandu.

For major issues like AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), the guides provide Diamox and instantly descend the patient to the lower elevation as soon as possible, and if necessary, promptly evacuate to Kathmandu.

We will cover the initial expenses for the rescue operation since these expenses will need to be recovered either from your insurance company or over cash/credit.

Where do I purchase trekking gears?

It is not necessary to invest a great deal of money buying gear for your trek on your nation, as the majority of those gears can be purchased at reasonable prices in Kathmandu. Besides, we are happy to provide you the trekking poles, high-quality sleeping bags and the rain protection duffel bags for your trek. (No charge, to be returned).

Do I require to get insured for this trek?

In case of a severe illness or any casualties, while You’re on Annapurna base camp trek (that we think won’t happen), we’ll do everything to move one to the closest hospital to save your life (that has happened to us few times), and you’re utterly accountable for all the expenses incurred in evacuation/rescue, therefore, please be certain these costs are covered by your insurance coverage before assigning to the trek Or even be ready to cover your own after return to Kathmandu. So make sure that you’ve insured yourself with at least 50 thousand dollars of coverage before performing the excursion.

Do I need prior trekking experience?

Some prior trekking experiences is beneficial.
However, any novice or experienced trekker with moderate fitness should be able to complete the trek.

For those who are used to hiking long distances with a weighted backpack, they might find the trek easy.

Furthermore, those who don’t have any such experiences can try jogging, sprinting, swimming, and exercising a few weeks before the trekking which helps to boost your endurance level and also brings your body in proper shape condition. Hike around nearby places, and focus on building your strength. The trek is challenging but rewarding in every way. With a little bit of training and determination, you can conquer the trek and tick it off your bucket list.

How much can a porter carry on trek?

As a porter carries the bags for two clients, the maximum suggested load for a porter is 25kg, which means 12.5kg per client. It does not matter a bit less or extra weight.

However, this is more of a limit than a plan, as 25 kg is quite heavy for a single person to carry. Besides, he also requires to carry his own bag. So you should thoughtfully decide what you intend to bring on the trek with you. It is a helpful idea to make a single bag between 2 of you.

The hotels and Lodges will also offer the service of a luggage storeroom so you may leave any non-required items of clothing, footwear, and personal items in a spare bag with them.

Passport and Nepal travel visa information.

The VISA process to Nepal is very quick and easy. All Visitors (except Indian nationals) are required a Valid Visa to access into Nepal. You can easily obtain a VISA upon arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, or at any Nepal entrance borders of India or China. The citizens of China, member countries of SAARC, and the children under 10(except the US) will get a free Visa (Gratis Visa).

For Visa Application, you will require a passport (with at least 6 months until expiration) and one passport-size photo. The current visa cost for 15 and 30 days is USD 30 and 50 (To be paid only on Cash), although you can also pay the equivalent amount by other currencies (no Indian currency). You can also easily extend your Visa from Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Countries not entitled to get an arrival visa are Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Swaziland, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Iraq, Cameroon, and Palestine. If you are from the above countries please contact your nearby diplomatic missions (Embassies/consulates) of the Nepal Government. We recommend scheduling your trip at least 1-2 days extra in the case of delays. We will arrange additional activities if no delay occurs.

Please be advised to check the current regulation for a more detailed and recent update.

Communication on the trek.

It’s a great thing being “connected” with your loved ones. The Internet is the most popular means of communication used by most of the trekkers. Use Viber, WhatsApp, Skype, or facetime where you can call. Though the internet speed experience during your trek may not be as fast as in the city areas cause the farther up the height you get, the slower, less reliable and more expensive these service becomes. Your Hotels in the cities will provide free WIFI, but the lodges and tea-houses on the trek will charge an extra 1 to 2 Dollars per day.

Most of the routes have mobile coverage, though the service may still not be reliable.
This will also depend upon the type of network SIM you use and will cost you a fair bit of money to keep using it. Though some days at a higher altitude, the mobile network is not reachable. Upon your request, we will provide you with a local SIM card.

In case of emergencies, your emergency contacts and information will be with us before you leave for the trek.

How to avoid altitude sickness?

Altitude Sickness is non-discriminatory and can happen to people of any age, gender, shape or size. It is common when people gain higher elevation quickly. Your best defense against altitude sickness is to ascend slowly and to be prepared by following the tips below.

  1. Drink Plenty of warm water ( 5 liters at least, no-exceptions)
  2. Proper Acclimatization and rest. Avoid rapid gains in elevation.
  3. Eat well, more, and often than normal.
  4. Avoid Alcohol, Tobacco & Cigarettes.
  5. Do not spend too much time at high altitudes pass.
  6. Use proper Medications for AMS.
  7. Listen to your body, know the early signs and symptoms of AMS and take action to prevent it from worsening.
