Overview

Bardia national park tour takes you to one of the wildest national parks in Nepal. If you have time and want to get an intense untamed jungle experience amidst the vast wilderness, Bardia National Park is the place to be. Ride through the sound serenity of the Bardia Jungle, exploring the wildlife and vegetation in the largest national park of Nepal. Take deep nature walks accompanied by an experienced naturalist.

Undergo white water rafting on Karnali, the longest river in Nepal, where you get to watch the gharials lazing in the sun or the exotic Gangetic dolphins which can be seen sometimes along the surface. Go for a bumpy elephant ride or sport fishing in Babai or Karnali River which is a habitat for 125 recorded species of fishes like golden mahseer.

Explore the countryside and meet the friendly indigenous ethnic group of Tharu and Dangora people, and learn about their colorful culture who have their own unique language, customs, and traditions. You can join the locals with farming, dancing, and cooking and taste the typical local cuisines. And of course, you are always welcome to celebrate the Nepalese festival with your families.

Our 3 days Bardia national park tour starts with a 40 minutes flight from Kathmandu and a few hours on the road thereafter gets you to the Bardia National Park in west Nepal, near to Nepal-India Border. Once the royal hunting ground for the monarch, Bardia is now the coherent protected area, protecting 968 km2 of savannah, grassland, sal, and riverine forest that is home to endangered Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic Elephant, and Great One-horned rhinoceros.

Besides, this large undistributed pristine park hosts the shelter to 30 species of mammals, more than 250 species of birds, and several varieties of reptiles that roam freely, some of which are not found in Chitwan. There are more sightings of tigers here than in other national parks which attracts the visitors most. One can traverse through the park for hours on end and not encounter another person.

Some of the other animals found here are swamp deer, blackbuck, leopards, and monkeys’ marsh-muggers. Birds found here include lesser florican, Bengal florican, silver-eared, Sarus crane and Mesia. If you are lucky, you can see rhinos bathing on the river or even spot a tiger.

The Maoist movement of the 1990s greatly suffered the Park. Lodges were down, tourism dried up, and the wildlife was hit hard by poaching, the rhino population in particular. But, the good news is that this loss is now being upturned.

The best time of the year you can visit Bardia National Park is from the beginning month of February till the end of May, and from mid-September till mid-December. Temperatures vary between 25 up to 37 degrees during these months and animals will move to the river and waterholes to drink which gives you better chances to spot the Tiger.

From mid-December onwards till the end of January, the weather sometimes gets foggyThe monsoon brings sticky and hot days which start in June and last till the end of August. The rising levels in the river can make access to the park difficult.

Activities in the park include a jeep safari, elephant rides, rafting, bird watching, and sport fishing accompanied by a naturalist. Hiring a guide is compulsory as the Park entrance tickets.

There are several safari lodges in Bardiya, which provide the visitors’ excellent accommodations and facilities who opt to enjoy wildlife activities. Bardiya is also accessible by road, only a two-hour drive away passing through Nepalgunj. Nepal’s Bardia National Park will give you a memorable experience that lasts a lifetime. Ready for discovering Bardia?
