Are you in Nepal and looking for a short and easy day hike nearby Thamel, Kathmandu? Are you not fond of multi-day hikes? If yes, the Jamacho day hill hike is the best option for you. It is about a 4-5 hours of easy hike inside the Nagarjun jungle that lies in Shivapuri National Park.
The Jamacho day hill hike is the most peaceful and closest hiking trail in Kathmandu. It is only 3 KM away from the tourist hub Thamel. This day hike route in the Kathmandu Valley is less crowded than the others. The trail goes through untamed jungles that are protected by the Nepalese Army. You can also get a chance to encounter wildlife and hear the soothing chirping of birds while walking inside the national park. On a clear day, you will be overwhelmed by the distant views of the mountain ranges such as Mt. Annapurna, Manaslu, Jugal, and Langtang.
The highest point of this trek is 2,100 meters and is about a 5 km walking path from starting point to the top of the uphill. Jamacho-Nagarjun jungle is also a great spot for meditation for spiritual lovers. Once you reach the top of Jamacho hill, you can enjoy the view of the bustling Kathmandu valley as well as the panoramic mountain ranges. There is a small Jamacho monastery at the ridge of the hill where you can find a statue of Nagarjuna Buddha.

Detail itinerary
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kathmandu at 9 AM in the morning and take you to drive for 10-15 minutes. After reaching the Phulbari Gate, obtain the national park entry permit and start our uphill walk. The trail leads us upwards through the dense forest of pines. We might spot different species of birds en route.
We walk about 3 hours gradually uphill to reach the top of Jamacho hill. We will visit Nagarjuna monastery, view-tower, and stroll around. After spending an hour at the top, we will return downhill to the Phulbari gate and take our drive back to the hotel.
