One of the key reasons for choosing this trek is to climb Kyanjin Ri, or Tserko Ri, to see amazing views of the Langtang region and the tall mountains around it.
Cultural Immersion
Trekking in the Langtang region allows you to experience the rich culture of the Tamang people, who have deep Tibetan roots. When you stroll the trails of the Langtang region, you will find traditional villages and ancient Tibetan monasteries. Some Trip Info
Can I Trek Langtang Gosaikunda Alone?
Technically, you can trek alone to Langtang Gosaikunda. However, your trekking expedition will be really tough, as when you climb the altitude, you will face different factors of difficulty such as high altitude, rugged terrains, and dynamic weather conditions. Therefore, we strongly don’t recommend you trek Langtang Gosaikunda alone. The Langtang Gosaikunda trek includes navigating challenging high-altitude passes and trails, with altitude sickness being a serious concern.
A guide offers crucial support for navigation, safety, and emergencies and assistance with permits and local knowledge. While experienced trekkers may consider going solo, it’s generally safer to trek with a guide. If the trekkers are beginners, it is also safe for them to trek with a group and hire guides and porters for safety, easy navigation, and ease the language or cultural barriers they are likely to face.
Do I need a guide & porter for this Trek?
Choosing to have guides and porters for the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek mostly depends on the trekkers themselves. The experienced trekkers may not require guides and porters. However, it will make their trek helpful. However, if you are a beginner trekker, then we recommend you hire guides and porters as it reduces the challenges of the trek.
You can trek alone, but hiring a guide has many benefits. Guides know the area well, including the trail conditions, weather, and local culture. This knowledge can make your trip safer and more enjoyable. They can help with planning, like finding places to stay and handling any challenges you might face. Additionally, since 2023, foreign tourists must have a guide in Nepal.
Similarly, there is also a major advantage to hiring porters. The porters are local natives familiar with the challenging conditions and steep ascents. They will help the trekkers by carrying 20 kg of your baggage, which is a huge help on the steep slopes and mountains. Hiring porters also helps them improve their economic condition and the condition of the community.

Altitude Sickness During the Trek
The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is a rewarding high-altitude trek, but there are some challenges, such as high altitude. At high altitudes, trekkers may face the possibility of altitude sickness. Altitude sickness happens when your body can’t adjust quickly enough to the lower oxygen levels at high altitudes. It’s usually preventable and treatable. If it gets severe, it can become life-threatening. To avoid serious problems, it’s important to recognize the symptoms early and stop climbing.
Altitude sickness can be simple or very serious. Some of the common symptoms of simple altitude sickness are nausea, fever, headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, etc. However, there are certain conditions of altitude sickness, like HAPE and HACE, which are high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) and high-altitude cerebral edema (HACE). HAPE seriously affects the victims’ lungs, whereas HACE affects the brain. These conditions are extremely serious and, if not treated in time, can be fatal.
Do we need any permits for the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek?
Yes, trekkers planning to experience the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek must issue some trek permits to make their trek eligible. The trekkers need the Langtang local area permit, Langtang National Park permit, and Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park entry permit. So, let’s get into them.
Langtang Local Area Permit
The Langtang Trekking Permit was introduced to replace the TIMS card. The local government issued it in Langtang. However, our guide told us that you do not need this permit. If you need it, you can get it at the Langtang checkpoint, which will likely cost between $10 and $20. After issuing this local area permit, the trekkers no longer need to issue the TIMS card.
Langtang National Park Permit
During the Langtang Gosaikunda trek, you will walk through many parts of Langtang National Park. The Langtang National Park was first established in 1976, and its purpose was to protect and conserve endangered species of floras and fauna. The personnel of the Langtang National Park have been working tirelessly for several years and have been protecting endangered species of animals, such as the Black Bear, Himalayan, Tahr, Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Musk Deer, and others. The Langtang National Park Entry Permit costs NRP 3,000, including VAT (about USD 26) for foreigners and NPR 1500, including VAT (around USD 12) for residents of SAARC nations.
Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park Entry Permit
The Langtang Valley trek starts in Syabrubesi, which is 122 km from Kathmandu. You do not need a permit to trek from Syabrubesi. However, some trekkers prefer the Gosaikunda–Helambu route. You will need a Shivapuri National Park entry permit if you choose this route. This permit costs NPR 1,000 for foreigners, NPR 600 for SAARC citizens, and NPR 50 for locals. Children under ten can enter for free. You can get this permit from the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu or the Shivapuri entry point.

We did this trek in 2018 with a group of 19 people from Croatia and completed it without any hazards. It was an amazing experience with our friends in Langtang National Park. Due to the support of the Glorious Himalaya team, no one had any issues during the trek with a 100% trip success rate.
We were accompanied by our guide Buddhi, Roshan and other 10 porters throughout the trekking. All our 10 porters were strong enough to carry our belongings and the guides performed their duty honestly.
We started our Langtang Gosaikunda journey from Syabrubesi and visited Langtang Valley then retrace our pace to Gosaikunda Lake via Thulosyabru. Some of our friends even hiked up to Suriya Peak at an elevation of 5,145 meters. During our journey, the weather was in our favor and the views were stunning.
Thanks to the team of Glorious Himalaya for your incredible assistance with our Langtang Gosaikunda Trek and we hope to work with you again.
