As the issue related to altitude sickness is a major concern above 2,500 m, the Ghorepani trek takes you to 3,200 m as the highest point. Thus, trekkers should know the risks, their symptoms, and preventive measures before starting the trip. Trekkers should ascend gradually, stay hydrated, and consume nutritious foods to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.

Trekking Trail

The trail to Poon Hill is somehow difficult, with some sections uphill, steep, and stairs, making it quite difficult for trekkers who are not used to walking on those trails, especially if they live a sedentary lifestyle. Also, walking in the uphill sections for several hours is difficult and requires a good fitness level. Moreover, the trek passes through remote locations with uneven paths, adding to the challenge of the trek.

 Crowded Trail and Packed Accommodation

The trek to Poon Hill and Ghorepani is the most preferred short trek in Nepal. Due to its popularity, many travelers visit the area during the peak season, including Spring and autumn. Thus, if you are trekking during that time, you’ll face problems like crowded trails and packed accommodations, making it less ideal for trekkers who prefer quiet trekking experience. Moreover, if you still want to trek during peak season, make pre-booking at the accommodation point. And if you want to avoid a crowded trek, trek during the off-season, but be ready for challenges.

What Permits Are Required for the Poon Hill Trek?

Permits are necessary paperwork to start a trek at any destination in Nepal. Embarking on the Ghorepani Poon Hill also requires two mandatory permits, including Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card. Nationality  Cost Per Person
SAARC NRS 1000
Non-SAARC NRS 3000

Mobile data is more reliable than WIFI as it is accessible in many parts. Moreover, purchasing a local sim with a data plan before the trek is recommended.

Traveller’s Review

We went on a guided walk to Poon Hill and Ghorepani. Our guide Prakash took excellent care of us, and we felt quite comfortable in his hands. He and Ganesh (company manager) were accommodating and flexible to our wishes despite the fact that the weather conditions changed significantly and the walk took longer than we had anticipated. Amazing vistas during the hike! We ended up with a slight food illness.

We heartily suggest Glorious Himalayas for your Nepali hiking adventure.

My husband and I traveled to Nepal in December 2021 for 9 days, during this time we completed the breathtaking 5-day Ghorepani-Poon Hill Trek via the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Ram Gurung, our local guide, was the sweetest and ended up becoming a travel companion. Without the support of this company and our guide Ram, Nepal would not have been the same thanks to his generosity, friendliness, thorough understanding of his nation and its culture, and, of course, his exceptional leadership abilities in the mountains. He is incredibly forgiving and paid attention to even the smallest things. Ram made sure that all of our meals were delicious during the vacation because we are both vegans.

We are eager to return to Nepal, and there is no way that we could travel there without Glorious Himalaya company.

we had the warmest welcome
