Detailed Itinerary of Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Day 1: Kathmandu to Pokhara (827m)

The first day of the six-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek is here. Today, you will be heading to Pokhara via a drive. You can take a tourist bus, public bus, or private car, but remember that renting a private car is more expensive than a tourist bus or public bus. The drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara takes approximately seven hours during your drive. You’ll see different types of Nepalese countryside and lifestyle from this drive. You will visit towns like Bandipur and Tansen in the Palpa district during your drive. After the seven-hour drive, you will reach Pokhara, where you will stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Pokhara to Nayapul and Tikhedhunga (1,570m)

On the second day of your trek, you’ll first drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. From Nayapul, your trek begins as you pass through the remote trial and climb the altitude. In the early part of this trek, you’ll find it relatively easy since the altitude is not as high, and many hotels, teahouses, and other services will aid in your trek. You will continue trekking alongside the Bhurungdi River, and after some hours, you will reach today’s destination in Tikhedhunga. The trek from Nayapul to Tikhedunga takes about 4-5 hours. You will reach Thikedhunga around the evening, so you can stroll around the area and introduce yourself to the locals after settling in your teahouse.

Day 3: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,840m)

TIkhedhunga is at an elevation of 1480m, from which different types of trek routes are separated in the Annapurna region. From Thikedunga, you can directly head towards the Annapurna Base Camp Trek or divert the trek route to the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. From the peak of Thikedhunga, the views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri are visible. As you move from Thikedunga, you must cross a few suspension bridges until you reach Ulleri. You will explore around Ulleri and move forward till you get to another peaceful village in Banthanti. You have to keep trekking until you reach Nange Thanti, and then your final destination is Ghorepani, where you will stay overnight.

Day 4: Ghorepani to Poon Hill and Tadapani (2,630m)

Today the trek starts from Ghorepani as you begin hiking towards Poon Hill, which is at 3210m. The main attraction of the Poon Hill is the sunrise from the stunning panoramic mountain views. During the sunrise, the golden hue of the light reflects in the mountains, making the entire region full of vibrant color. After spending a few hours in Poon Hill, you will descend to Ghorepani and then make your way back to Tadapani. You will trace your step back and reach Deurali and then keep moving for a few more hours until you reach Tadapani, where you will stay overnight.

Day 5: Tadapani to Sinuwa (2,340m)

Today’s trek is from Tadapani to Sinuwa. For around seven hours, you will pass through several lush forests, flowering trails, and suspension bridges before reaching Sinuwa. As you descend from Tadapani, you’ll pass through a Gurung settlement and enjoy stunning views of the Upper Modi Valley. The trail then takes you on a long uphill stretch high above the west bank of the Modi Khola. After passing the village of Chhomrong at the base of the Hiunchuli, the trail descends to the Chhomrong Khola. From there, you’ll gradually climb toward your destination for the day. Sinuwa, a charming ethnic village, offers beautiful mountain views and natural surroundings.

Day 6: Sinuwa to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m)

The day’s trek takes about 7-8 hours, starting with a steady ascent to Deurali, where you can take a break. Generally, you will stay overnight in Deurali on the longer itinerary, but keep moving forward on this trek. After Deurali, the trek to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is relatively flat. From here, it’s a two-hour trek to Annapurna Base Camp. The mountains feel closer, and the views are breathtaking – this experience alone makes the trip worth it.
