What Permits Are Required for the Langtang Valley Trek?
The only Langtang National Park Entry Permit is required to do the Langtang Trekking. Earlier, trekkers also had to take the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card. The park entry is issued by the Langtang National Park Management Authority at various entry points and Kathmandu.
TIMS used to get available in Kathmandu. The provision of TIMS is no longer in the trekking trails but you need to be aware about this. The TIMS Card may be needed later in future!
How Much Do the Langtang Valley Trek Permits Cost?
As of 2025, the cost of the Langtang Valley Trek Permits (Langtang National Park Entry Permit) for foreign nationals is Nrs. 3000 per person. SAARC citizen can get the entry permit at Nrs. 1500 per person and Nepalese trekkers have to pay Nrs. 100 per person.
Children below 10 years old don’t require any permits to enter the national park but they must be accompanied by the responsible adults. Please note that the cost of the Langtang Valley Trek Permits is same regardless of group size.
In some cases, trekkers may have to take the Shivapuri National Park entry permit as well depending upon the trekking route and itinerary. The cost of Shivapurin National Park is Nrs. 1000 for foreigners, Nrs. 600 to SAARC nationals, and Nrs. 50 to Nepalese trekkers.
Where and How to Obtain These Permits?
The easiest way to obtain the Langtang Valley Trek Permits is at the entry points! There are countless entry points of the national park. Sundarijal of Kathmandu, Dhunche the district headquarter of Rasuwa district, Kutumsang, and Sermathang are the popular entry points of the national park.

Do I Need a Guide or Porter to Get the Permits?
No, you don’t need a guide or porter to get the permits. All you have to do is show up at the entry point and present your Passport! You can easily get the permit! Please note that trekking independently either solo or in a group without the licensed trekking guide is banned. The decision was made by the national park authority and Nepal Government in February 15, 2025.
The authorities are lenient in 2025 but they are planning to execute this rule in 2026. Therefore, if you are planning to do Langtang Trek in Nepal then consider hiring a trekking guide.
Permit Check posts and documents that you need to carry Along the Trekking Route
Nowadays, there are only three check posts in the Langtang Valley Trek route where your permit will be checked. The first check post is at Dhunche where you can even buy the permit if you have not purchased in Kathmandu. On the trekking trail, there is a check post in Syaprubeshi but if you choose the Lower Route then you don’t have to trek through this check post.
Finally, the permit will be checked at the Army Check Post in Ghoda Tabela. It is the small village between Lama Hotel and Langtang Village.
Valid original passport with Nepal entry visa should be carried while trekking.
Penalties for Trekking Without Permits
You should always carry the Langtang Valley Trek Permits throughout the trekking trip. If you are trekking without the permit then you may face penalties and on extreme case expulsion or deportation. Trekking is done to get repose from mental drabness and to escape from everyday chaos.

Langtang Trek Permit Validity
The Langtang National Park Entrance Permit is issued as single entry for an entire duration of the trek. You must specify the route and expected days inside the national park region and buffer zone while purchasing the permit.
In case of emergencies or delays then the national park authority becomes lenient. Remember that you don’t need to renew the permit even if you are staying for more than the stipulated days inside the park. However, you must inform the authority with the valid reason.
Please note that you are not allowed to stay inside the region beyond your visa durations.
Permit Requirements for Extended Routes (Gosaikunda or Helambu)
There are few places inside the region which require additional permit besides Langtang National Park Entry Permit. For example, if you are doing the Ganjala Pass Trek with Helambu and Langtang Valley Trek with Gosaikunda Lake from Chisapani section then you must acquire Shivapurin National Park Permit.
Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek, Tamang Heritage Trail Trek, and Yala Peak Climbing Trek are possible with the single Langtang National Park Entry Permit.
Langtang valley trek Permits for Children
It is safe and okay to trek in the Langtang Valley Trek with your kids. Let your kids know about ancient culture and traditions. Make sure that you let your kids to explore the mystical valleys and centuries old monasteries to awaken their spiritual self!
You don’t have to obtain the Langtang Valley Trek Permits for your kids if they are below 10 years old. Kids above 10 years old need the entry permit similar to adult trekkers.
