The beautiful viewpoint ‘Poon Hill,’ located at an altitude of 3,210m, is a famous tourist destination of the Myagdi district. It beats every other tourist destination in terms of the beauty of nature. The Ghorepani poon hill trek route along the Ghara village is a name renowned among foreigners. The area is also famous for the rhododendron flower. Some 16 different species of rhododendron bloom here in the spring season, adding to Poon Hill’s charm. The place also serves as the entry point to the Ghorepani Annapurna Base Camp trekking route, one of the most popular trekking regions in the world.
Magnificent Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Machhapuchhere, as well as various Himalayan peaks, are observed unobstructed from Ghorepani Poon Hill, while the sights of sunrise are beyond the limits of words. Tourists climb to the top of Poon Hill even before dawn, and the air is filled with the cacophony of noise created by the tourist speaking in a myriad of tongues. But pin-drop silence sets on, and all eyes focus on the first rays of light emerging from the east, and the mountains get washed in the heavenly glitter. Poon Hill is also an excellent site to observe the diverse flora and fauna and experience the traditional culture of the hospitable Magar community. The best time to visit Poon Hill is between the autumn and spring seasons when rows of the Himalayan mountain peaks covered by a blanket of impeccable white snow could be visible to the heart’s content.
