The three high passes and Everest base camp trek was incredible!
Glorious Himalaya Trekking made the experience absolutely fantastic and I can’t recommend them enough. Our guide Ganesh was brilliant! He regularly checked in to see how we were going, shared a lot about Sagarmatha National Park and Nepal in general, answered all of our questions and taught us how to play a super fun Nepali card game called Jut Patti!
I found the first pass (Kongma La Pass) quite difficult, however, Ganesh was always very patient and open to taking breaks when needed. Opting for the anticlockwise route also meant the passes got easier as the trek progressed and there was ample time for acclimatisation at the beginning, reducing our risk for altitude sickness.
Given the timing of our trek (late August – early September) we were incredibly lucky to have mostly clear and sunny days. Our flight from Kathmandu to Lukla went ahead as planned, but we ended up driving on the way back due to uncertainty with the weather/reduced visibility for flights – this was a long and very bumpy ride but was definitely the right call. Factoring in a few extra days to allow for delays is a must!
